    In 1985, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch established a Scholarship Fund aimed at developing expertise in and knowledge of deafness. The fund is administered by the Advisory Council for Children with Impaired Hearing.

    Early childhood, educational and health professionals are invited to apply for a Scholarship to:

    • undertake coursework studies in the field of deafness;
    • conduct research in fields that add to the evidence base for family-centred early intervention services in support of children who are deaf.

    Studies must be undertaken at a tertiary institute in Australia.

    Applications are assessed by the Scholarship Committee panel members:

    • Associate Professor Dianne Toe (Elisabeth Murdoch Scholarship alumna)
      Deputy Head of School/ Director of Professional Practice, School of Education Deakin University

    • Mr James Worladge (Philanthropy Manager, RIDBC)

    Terms and conditions of the scholarship

    • Any scholarship is dependent on successful admission to your nominated degree.
    • Scholarship funds will not be forwarded to a successful applicant until approval has been granted by the Scholarship Committee.
    • Late applications will not be assessed.
    • The scholarship panel may choose to interview applicants via video conference or in person.
    • Each applicant will be assessed on own merits and in regard to demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge and expertise in field of hearing impairment and/or related field.
    • Award of scholarship is dependent on successful applicant’s signed acceptance of the terms of the scholarship offer.
    • Recipient must be willing to participate in promotional activities as requested by the scholarship pannel.
    • Recipients must display the title “Elisabeth Murdoch Scholar” on all written documents and or publications related to the supported study.

    Application Dates

    Application open Monday 2nd March and will close 5pm, Friday 17th April. Applicants will be notified of the outcome six weeks after the closing date.
