• The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way for people to get disability support through individualised funding. The NDIS will provide funding so that people can get the care and support they need based on their individual goals and aspirations. Under the NDIS, organisations like Taralye will no longer be funded by government to provide services. Instead the funding will be allocated directly to people with a disability and their families via agreed funding packages determined with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).  Your child and family will then be able to purchase the support you need from recognised service organisations like Taralye.

    Taralye is registered to provide support under the NDIS. Our supports have an NDIS recommended cost and can be purchased in line with an NDIS agreed funded plan which is established between the person with a disability, their family and an NDIS planner.

    The NDIS has been trialled in regions across Australia and began rolling out across Victoria from 1 July 2016.  It is being introduced in stages because it’s a big change and it is important to get it right and make it sustainable.  People will move to the NDIS at different times depending on where they live and the type of support they receive.  In Victoria the rollout will be complete by July 2019.

    – Central Highlands
    – Loddon

    1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018:
    – Outer East Melbourne
    – Inner East Melbourne
    – Ovens Murray
    – Inner Gippsland
    – Western District
    – Bayside Peninsula
    – Hume Moreland

    1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019:
    – Southern Melbourne
    – Brimbank Melton
    – Western Melbourne
    – Goulburn
    – Mallee

  • Taralye is registered to provide Better Start programs in Victoria and Tasmania.

    The federal government’s Better Start for Children with Disability program makes funds directly available to eligible families to help pay for their early intervention needs.

    Under Better Start, children with hearing impairment are eligible for up to $12,000 in funding to pay for early intervention support and allied health therapies, with a maximum of $6,000 to be spent in any financial year.

    Families can use up to 35% of the funding to purchase equipment and resources for their child. Additional funding is available for children who live in remote areas.

    Families have until their child’s seventh birthday to use Better Start funding. You must register for Better Start before your child’s sixth birthday.
    Better Start for children with hearing loss

    A child is eligible for Better Start funding if he or she has:

    • A permanent hearing loss (either conductive or sensorineural) in both ears, with a four-frequency average hearing level of 40dB HL or greater in the better ear, or
    • Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder
